DULUTH, Minn. - Retired Minnesota Army National Guard Brig. Gen. Nick Ostapenko of Duluth (right) presents retired Lt. Art LeSage with his World War II service medals during a ceremony at the National Guard Armory in Duluth on Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012.

LeSage, who lived in Morris and Alexandria, Minn., before moving to the Duluth area four years ago, was captured by German troops after being wounded in Italy during World War II. He later escaped while on a forced march through Poland and made his way back to freedom.

He did not receive his medals at that time; the oversight finally was corrected at Saturday’s ceremony.
